How the composite score works
The overall score is a weighted average of the categories: Getting the product 40%, Trust before buying 20%, Mobile 15%, Speed 15%, and Polish and audit 10%. It is never more than 10 points above the Getting the product score, because a product a visitor cannot get cannot score well on anything else, and never more than 25 points above the weakest category, so one badly broken area is not averaged away. Any issue in the main list caps it at 89, so a score above 90 means nothing worth fixing was found.
Each category starts at 100 and stays there when nothing was found in it, whether or not the inspection got that far. Each distinct verified finding deducts 60 points for a serious problem on the path from arriving to paying, 40 for another serious problem, 30, 15 or 8 by high, medium or low severity otherwise, and 4 for an audit finding. Each additional finding below the list takes 2 more points off the overall score, up to 10. Scores stop at zero and round to whole numbers. The formula is fixed and versioned, so the same saved evidence always receives the same score.
Power Automate is listed at $15/yr but quoted at $15 per user per month
Visitors reading the Power Automate listing are told it costs $15 a year, while the Microsoft text quoted on the same page says $15 per user per month.
On /t/powerautomate-microsoft-com, the headline says "Then it costs $15 a year." and both the THEN YOU PAY box and the side panel show "$15/yr". The PRICE quote on the same page reads "Power Automate Premium $15.00 user/month, paid yearly", so the listing gives a yearly unit for what the source prices per user per month. The home page Popular list shows the same "$15/yr" figure, so a visitor using the project to check the cost after a trial gets a figure that the page's own quote contradicts.
Try it: Open /t/powerautomate-microsoft-com and compare the "$15/yr" in the THEN YOU PAY box with the PRICE quote "$15.00 user/month, paid yearly" below it.
The Copilot "Try free" button opens a 2024 forum question
Visitors who click to start the Copilot trial get no signup page, and the "30 days, no card" claim turns out to rest on a community thread.
On /t/copilot-microsoft-com, the "Try Microsoft Copilot free" button goes to a techcommunity.microsoft.com thread from Apr 20, 2024. The thread asks "Is there a free trial of Copilot?" and offers no signup, trial or pricing. The page says its facts were "Copied from microsoft.com, word for word", but the source line points to the same forum, so a visitor at the try step hits a dead end and finds a sourcing claim the link contradicts.
Try it: Open https://www.saastrials.com/t/copilot-microsoft-com and click "Try Microsoft Copilot free". A techcommunity forum thread from April 2024 opens, not a Microsoft trial page.
Albato is listed at $5000/mo with a quote not on Albato's page
Visitors comparing automation tools by price see Albato as a $5,000 a month product, and anyone who checks the source finds the "word for word" quote is missing.
The /t/albato-com page says "Then it costs $5000 a month" and shows THEN YOU PAY "$5000/mo". It backs this with a PRICE quote under "Copied from albato.com, word for word": "Pro starts at $5,000 a month: 5,000,000 transactions, unlimited connectors, a staging environment, and a Slack hotline." The linked albato.com/pricing page lists Pro at $22/mo billed monthly or $15/mo billed annually, and its transaction slider stops at 2M. Visitors sorting the Automation category by price meet this figure, and anyone who checks the source finds a quote that is not on the vendor's page.
Try it: Open /t/albato-com and read the PRICE quote, then click "See the page we read" and search albato.com/pricing for "$5,000" or "Slack hotline".
The paid sponsorship form asks only for an X handle, not an email
Vendors who want to buy a €9 a day spotlight but do not use X cannot leave any other way to be reached.
Both "Sponsor a category" and "Ask for a spotlight" open /submit?want=spotlight. That form's only contact field is "Your X handle", and it has no email or other contact field. The hint under it, "So we can tell you when your tool is on the project", comes from the add-a-tool flow and does not say how the sponsorship request will be answered. This form is the only route to the project's one paid product, so buyers meet it at the pay step.
Try it: Open /spotlight and click "Sponsor a category". Look at the form fields and you will see that no email field exists, only "Your X handle".
After-trial prices mix euros and dollars, and the euro ones don't match vendors
Visitors comparing tools on what they will pay after the trial see a euro price, then a different dollar price once they click Try free.
The Notion page says "Then it costs €9.50 a month", which was copied from a euro version of notion.com/pricing. Its Try free link opens a pricing page marked "Price in USD" with Plus at $10 per member a month. The Shopify row shows €27/mo, while Shopify's pricing page shows Basic at $29/mo. Visitors meet this mismatch when they compare tools and click through to the vendor, and the home table and the Cheapest sort list euro and dollar rows side by side as if they were the same currency.
Try it: Open /t/notion-so and note "€9.50/mo", then click "Try Notion free" from a US connection and compare it with the USD price shown. Then scan the THEN column on the home page for € and $ rows mixed together.
Power BI's Try free button opens an admin licensing doc
Visitors who click Try free on Microsoft Power BI land in a documentation article for administrators, with no trial signup in view.
On the home Popular list, Microsoft Power BI is listed as "30 days · Free plan Yes". Its Try free button (/go/powerbi-microsoft-com) redirects to learn.microsoft.com's "Power BI licensing guide for organizations", which opens with "This article is for administrators". The link to start the trial sits far down that article, so a visitor clicking out to start a 30-day trial meets a licensing manual at that step.
Try it: Open https://www.saastrials.com/go/powerbi-microsoft-com and check where it lands. You will reach the Power BI admin licensing guide on learn.microsoft.com, not a trial or signup page.
The home page is missing five security response headers
The response from https://www.saastrials.com/ is missing Content-Security-Policy, CSP frame-ancestors or X-Frame-Options, X-Content-Type-Options: nosniff, Referrer-Policy, and Cross-Origin-Resource-Policy.
Grey helper text on the home page is below the 4.5:1 contrast ratio
On / and /no-card, three pieces of grey text (#737883) fall short of the required 4.5:1 contrast ratio: the search placeholder prefix at 4.42, the "Browse" sidebar label at 4.24 and the "1,031" count on the All tools row at 3.88. The main table, the filters and the Try free buttons are not affected.
Inline text links on the home page rely on colour alone
On / and /no-card, the inline links Ahrefs, How we make money and Privacy are #c9401c against surrounding #737883 text, a 1.12:1 contrast, and have no underline. Their colour is the only thing that sets them apart from the text around them. They are secondary links and are not part of the browse and Try free path.
