How the composite score works
The overall score is a weighted average of the categories: Getting the product 40%, Trust before buying 20%, Mobile 15%, Speed 15%, and Polish and audit 10%. It is never more than 10 points above the Getting the product score, because a product a visitor cannot get cannot score well on anything else, and never more than 25 points above the weakest category, so one badly broken area is not averaged away. Any issue in the main list caps it at 89, so a score above 90 means nothing worth fixing was found.
Each category starts at 100 and stays there when nothing was found in it, whether or not the inspection got that far. Each distinct verified finding deducts 60 points for a serious problem on the path from arriving to paying, 40 for another serious problem, 30, 15 or 8 by high, medium or low severity otherwise, and 4 for an audit finding. Each additional finding below the list takes 2 more points off the overall score, up to 10. Scores stop at zero and round to whole numbers. The formula is fixed and versioned, so the same saved evidence always receives the same score.
Sandbox event rows link to the wrong events and wrong pages
Developers testing the data before getting a key click through to the wrong events, which undercuts the accuracy the API is sold on.
On /things-to-do/today/, which the header Sandbox button opens as "one call to the API", row 09 "Farmers Market · Fort Mason Center" opens a Fort Mason art exhibition page, "Haines Gallery: 250 Years, Indigenous Futures". Other rows link to Eventbrite's general Oakland search page, to a February-dated Breema page for an Oct 18 listing, or to the same Instagram post for two different events. A history tour is filed under Music with a sentence fragment as its venue, and "Secondhand Saturdays" is listed on a Sunday. This is the try step, where a developer checks the data before signing up.
Try it: Open /things-to-do/today/ and click row 09 "Farmers Market" at Fort Mason Center. It opens an art exhibition page instead of a market. Then hover rows 06 and 07 and check their link targets.
The home page globe shows Austin and LA events the API doesn't cover
Developers in Austin or Los Angeles see events from their city in the hero, then get empty results once they call the API.
The hero globe on the home page shows sample events labelled "Songwriter set · Austin · 7:30 PM" and "Taco pop-up · Los Angeles · 6:00 PM". A search for "songwriter set in austin tonight" returns "results":[] with "Austin is not covered", and the Supported regions list further down marks Los Angeles as "Soon". A buyer forms their view of coverage at the understand step, and the first thing they see suggests cities that are not live.
Try it: Open https://thingstodoapi.com/ and watch the globe labels in the hero. Then open https://api.thingstodoapi.com/v1/search?q=songwriter+set+in+austin+tonight and read the "not covered" message.
The home page is missing four security response headers
The response from https://thingstodoapi.com/ is missing Strict-Transport-Security, Content-Security-Policy, CSP frame-ancestors or X-Frame-Options, and Cross-Origin-Resource-Policy.
Pricing plan text and "Soon" badges fall just below contrast minimum
The "Soon" badges in the coverage list and the "60 calls a minute" line in the first pricing plan use #5a5a54 text on a #cecec8 background, a contrast of 4.39:1 against the required 4.5:1. The same styling repeats on the things-to-do pages. Visitors comparing plans meet it at the pricing step, but the shortfall is small.
