How the composite score works

The overall score is a weighted average of the categories: Getting the product 40%, Trust before buying 20%, Mobile 15%, Speed 15%, and Polish and audit 10%. It is never more than 10 points above the Getting the product score, because a product a visitor cannot get cannot score well on anything else, and never more than 25 points above the weakest category, so one badly broken area is not averaged away. Any issue in the main list caps it at 89, so a score above 90 means nothing worth fixing was found.

Each category starts at 100 and stays there when nothing was found in it, whether or not the inspection got that far. Each distinct verified finding deducts 60 points for a serious problem on the path from arriving to paying, 40 for another serious problem, 30, 15 or 8 by high, medium or low severity otherwise, and 4 for an audit finding. Each additional finding below the list takes 2 more points off the overall score, up to 10. Scores stop at zero and round to whole numbers. The formula is fixed and versioned, so the same saved evidence always receives the same score.

The Enterprise card promises Copilot that self-serve buyers can't get yet

Buyers who start the self-serve Enterprise trial from the pricing page are told Copilot is included in the $21 seat, but the post the card links to says it isn't available to them yet.

On github.com/pricing, the $21 per user per month Enterprise card lists "GitHub Copilot access" first and shows the notice "GitHub Enterprise now includes access to GitHub Copilot", right under the self-serve "Start a free trial" button. The notice's "Learn more" link opens the changelog post, which says under Availability: "If you manage your own subscription: Currently unavailable." The self-serve "Pick your trial plan" page doesn't mention this, so buyers see two different answers about what the plan includes at the point where they choose it.

additional findings
Medium

The phone "Company news" category link is under the 24px tap minimum

On a phone, the "Company news" category link above the lead story on the home page measures 103.3px by 21px. Its safe tap space is 23px across, and WCAG 2.5.8 requires at least 24px. The footer Terms link fails the same rule, and so do pages across the blog.

Medium

The blog home page is missing four security headers

The response from https://github.blog/ is missing Content-Security-Policy, X-Content-Type-Options: nosniff, Referrer-Policy, and Cross-Origin-Resource-Policy. ai_session lack Secure or HttpOnly.

Medium

The article lightbox image has no alt text

The element is an empty shell with no src until a reader opens an image, so the gap only affects assistive technology users looking at enlarged article images.

Medium

Code sample highlight colours fall below the contrast minimum

In the code block on /security/subresource-integrity/, the symbol tokens ":application" and "integrity:" have a contrast ratio of 4.48 (#ab5656 on #eff2ff). The literal "true" is at 3 (#669955 on #eff2ff). The requirement for 14px text is 4.5, and the same highlight theme fails on another article.

Medium

Keyboard users cannot scroll this article's code samples

The first sample's disclaimer line is visibly cut off at "legal adv", and a keyboard user has no way to scroll it into view.
